I have a copy of ACAD 2000 on my Windows 7 Professional 64 bit installation. It will not even install on the Windows 7 64Bit without doing it in XP Mode since ACAD 2000 is a 32 Bit program that ACAD wrote that is not compatible with 64Bit Windows.

On WIN7 Pro I downloaded the XP mode files from Microsoft. When I was planning my Computer upgrade to WIN 7 I specifically chose WIN 7 Pro because of its ability to run in 32 BIT compatibility mode. I got W7 Pro there and it was around $150.00 when I built my computer. There are two stores in the Phoenix area. That sure is a lot of $$ less than AutoCad software. I don't think Compatibilty Mode will let you run the setup.exe. It has to be Win7 Pro or Ultimate with the XP mode software installed(free download from Microsoft by the way).

It runs fine and even does the printers right, although I print to large-format PDF most of the time now. If the VirtualBox makes a 'guest' inside Win7 like it does on other OS —and Oracle claims that it does— then it will be a snap to format the 'box' with WinNT4, Win2k, or WinXP and run Autocad that way.

I had to upgrade from Windows 7 Home edition to Windows & professional ($90.00) Then I downloded Windows virtual PC and Windows XP Mode (free download).
